Not building settlements at this juncture is the ONLY WAY FORWARD....In the interest of the future of the Jewish people in Israel it is imperative that there is movement forward because otherwise, ultimately, Israel will not be able to remain a democratic, Jewish state.

Jerusalem is a free city and the capitial city and centre for life in Israel. It belongs to Israel and must not be divided to support those who have hated Israel.

It always amazes me how the world seems to have forgotten that the "disputed lands" under Israeli control were (admittedly) captured in the war of 1967 - yes, but wasn't that war an all out assault on Israel by a coalition of its mighty Arab neighbors?! And only by a great miracle and brilliant military strategy and might, did Israel manage to defend herself from out and outright slaughter! Isn't there some phrase that pro-Israel spokespeople could attach to the phrase? - such as, (and this is a clumsy example) "lands captured after an all out, murderous assault on Israel by seven Arab nations" - There must be some kind of short phrase that someone sharper than I could come up with that could be - should be - attached to all news items - that would remind the world where these "captured disputed lands" come from! It's not as though Israel went after that land out of the blue - but only in the process of having to defend the land of Israel from an all out assault! Let's start using words and phrases that remind the world a bit better how this land came to be obtained!!

Michael Oren (A Jersey Boy) said what should have been explained long ago. We allowed the building in Jerusalem to be identified as settlements for too long. Our opponents jump into response mode immediately.

Thank you for tis clear explanation, which I will forward to others.

I am sick and tire of hearing about this. Sense when obama has offer california back to Mexico. You have never hear Jerusalem of the arabs(palestinian) for thausands of years you have only hear jerusalem of the Jewish people. Its time to tell Obama to read the bible and not the Coran. Thanks

I have not a single clean thing to say about the Jew/Israel haters in the various media. They use the term suicide bombers instead of what they really are: HOMICIDE bombers.

I don't care if they die, I do care that innocent people die. A FORMER friend of mind thinks that Israel should take down the security fence, but America should make a 100 foot wall, half of it underground, to keep out Hispanics who want to make money to feed their families. When I asked what was wrong with Israel protecting itself, he said, "It's different, not that many Arabs want to kill Israelis."

End of a long-term friendship.

I have tried to get people to understand that there is no Arab part of Jerusalem; there is no east or west, it is ONE CITY. "But what about the poor Arabs, where are they supposed to live?" I show them a map of the area showing how tiny Israel is compared to the rest of the Arab countries and tell them that they should move into any of the humongous size of Arab countries relative to the tiny Israel. They are so hateful that they don't see the difference.

Bah...

Jerusalem is not a settlement because it has always been Jewish, even during the occupation of gentiles in the Jerusalem there has ALWAYS been a Jewish presence in the city. The only occupants are the so called "Palestinians" and the odious mosque in land that King David bought.

I AM WAITING IMPATIENTLY FOR NETANYAHU TO STATE THIS TO THE WORLD OR ANY OTHER PLACE WHERE HE CAN BE QUOTED.
I BET YOU CAN'T FIND ONE INSTANCE.
IF HE WERE TO DO SO, IT WOULD FAR BETTER THAN YOU TELLING A GROUP OF COMMITTED (BUT FRUSTRATED) ZIONISTS.

Jerusalem is the capital of the state of Israel ,the homeland of the Jewish people for the last 2500 years.

This is the truth, those are the facts . The media and so called journalists are terribly bias . ignoring history , facts, the truth. Jerusalem NEVER will be divided . Jerusalem is a united Capital of Israel.

Zvia Alloush

Media excitement over pronouncements on the continuing plans for construction in Har Homa and other Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem is part of the media war against Israel. It really is just a tempest in a teapot. Journalists who live in Jerusalem are misinforming the public in order to please their editors. Readers seem to like reading articles that make Israelis seem like cruel monsters. Selling newspapers is no longer an honorable profession.

At this point, any American Jew that supports Barack Obama is helping to bring down the State of Israel. American Jews, WAKE UP!

I'm curious to know how many homes have been built in Jerusalem, across the Green Line, since 1967. Assuming that the number is large, it might be helpful to show that this announcement is really small in the overall picture.

Building in the EAST is not an accepted activity if you are of the belief that the EAST belongs to the Palistians and that the borders have to be set as they were pre '67 war.

In reality this land "Israel" belongs to all the inhabitants jews and arabs alike. A two state solution does not have to mean a divided state, city or country.

I can only comment from my personal knowledge and belief, but its appears certain that the world media generally is completely biased against Israel and the Jewish People, who therefore controls such media ? It was with Joy as a child I remember when Israel became a Nation again, and Gladness when Israel regain all of Jerusalem. I grew up on very dry farmland and my heroes were those early Judges and Kings of Israel. Surely as I am not an intellicual learned person, others
all over the world must know these facts. I cannot agree with catholicism or other so called apostate christian religions in how they have dealt over 2000 centuries with the Jewish people. Israel belongs to Israel fullstop. The arabs that call themselves palistians are not a nation as such, but the results of the islamic plan involved in destruction and take over
of the middle east and the western type democracies. They are terrorists who appear to be supported by many countries that are anti semetic. G-d Bless Israel

Its a pity that a very biased mind is behind such anti-Israeli commentary. I'm not politically savvy so I cannot contribute as much as I'd like to but I'm sure others will pen their thoughts - those who can see the situation as it is and those with a strong of justice.
I base my comments on facts recorded in the Bible which I believe is the Word of God, and it has been recorded that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and the very fact that Israel came to nationhood is a miracle of God. No wonder such opposition and it continues. The people of Israel have every right to build in their own land as many settlements as they like or as the needs arise. I'm amazed how world leaders are so against the buildings of these settlements, which other nation is stopped from building in their own land??
God bless you at Honest Reporting for exposing the truth.

Whatever development there is in Jerusalem, in whatever part, is used to fueld Arab propaganda and distorted by the world's press who are universally hostile to Israel, thanks to bribery and pressure from all over the Arab world. Look at the law suit, brought by some organization calling itself "The Foundation for Middle East Peace" whose idea of Middle East Peace is clearly to make the whole of the Middle East "Judenrein" backed by the PLO no less, to try and destroy the Jerusalem metro project by taking legal action against the two French companies who were commissioned to provide the rolling stock and operate the line. I have seen a transcript of the submissions by the Claimants in this disgusting case that the French judiciary should have dismissed sine die from the outset. It is full of hatred and lies.

The entire Jeruselum was and is Isreaal since it was satated when captured and Cemetary Stones were found by capturing Isreaaly army captured the citt. Isreal has permitted all religions to pray in their own way.It hAS ALLOWED ALL RELIGIONS TO FLOURISH UNDERE iSRAELY lAW.

An excellent and helpful article.
This map of Jerusalem's neighborhoods should be placed all over the net!

This article must be translated into other languages and published on European blogs as well.

Thank you!

Someone please tell President Obama and Hillary Clinton.

The legal situation is even more entangled than HR presents it.
The current discourse implicitly defines as "palestinian land" any land that was not held by Israel before '67 (generally ignoring Mt Scopus). Accepting this simplification may actually do HR's case a disservice.
If "Palestinian land" is a shorthand for areas assigned to Palestinians in the partition plan, then East Jerusalem does not belong there. It has indeed been de facto Jordanian territory 1949-67 (except again for Mount Scopus that was Israeli all along). Never has it been Palestinian land de jure.
Such coplexities are difficult to convey in a text. I think that having them better illustrated on the map would be of use: i e marking the boundaries of the partition plan's "corpus separatum", and the armistice lines (without missing the Scopus enclave and the swathes of no-man's land)would provide a better insight!

As an American Jew, I see the whole issue of Jewish houses outside prior lines of division as anti-peace. Jews and Arabs should be able to live where they want, but the problem is that Israel is not willing to state that any new residents in East Jerusalum will be subjects of the to-be-established Palestinian state.

Israel is correct to say that Jerusalem is not a SETTLEMENT.

It is a full part of Israel.

Everyone should know well their World History and do NOT be confused by those Journalists who wrote nonsense articles of Jerusalem, a settlement, the Israelis are building on..

Now Just a comparision - Look there was no Jordan or even Syria before the the World 1 - so can we then say that all these areas were part of Israel as many JEWS were in these areas too.

Can JEWS then claim all these areas as part of GREATER ISRAEL.

Look if the palestinians and the so call arab states in Middle east want to make land settlement then these Arabs , these dogs of war must be prepared to also give up their land claims as there was no saudi arabia, no jordan, no syria, no abu dabui etc. So what do the arabs want ??? Arabs or these palestinians must realise that there is no two ways -- if you want land then there must be a stop to all other claims.- no such thing as returnees to previous lands in Israel etc as what is claimed is done.
If these arabs want to talk about returnees then ISRAELI MUST ALSO CLAIM FOR ALL THEIR PROPERTIES AND LAND THESE ARAB NATION TOOK FROM THE jews BY FORCE ALL THE LANDS THAT BELONG TO THE jews - IN JORDON, SYRIA, IN SAUDI ARABIA, IN eGYPT IN iRAN AND MANY OTHER PLACES.

sO WAKE UP YOU THE DOGS OF WAR AND THESE ARABS YOU CANNOT HAVE THE WHOLE CAKE AND EAT IT. aRABS AND THE PALESTINIANS ARE JUST LIKE A MONKEY EATING THEIR FILL AND JUST CANNOT STOP. mUST BE A HUMAN BEING MAN.

No matter what we'll explain to the world, the media will take side with the Arab voice against us. History is not even a reference, since it gets twisted most of the time in favor of the Arabs views. Israel even doesn't exist in the Arab culture. So let us do our duty and build Jerusalem the way we wish, since it is Israel's Capital, one and undivisible. Ben Gurion was right, we should have destroyed the Old City's Walls, eradicating any traces of previous landmark! That's the only way people ever understand authority. Once and for all, let us not waste energy and resources on the rest of the world thinks.

Israelis won a war in 1967, what was began by the ennemies.During this war Israel reoccupied Jerusalem,a capital for thousend of years for jews.
It is a question of life to have territoties of their own, as antisemitism is still existing throughout the world.
