I thought your reaction to the Amnesty International criticism was hilarious. I recall Harold Wilson withholding Centurion tank spares from Israel and claiming that he was doing it in their interests. It turned out that he was right. They went on to develop their own first class battle tank.
While I am constantly defending Israel from the determinedly blinkered, I have to say that I believe the Israeli government should employ a carrot and stick strategy. Not just the stick. Furthermore, it is the carrots that she be publicised by HR and others not just be forever on the defensive.

So its ok to place blame on Honest Reporting because of emails?? I disagree!Honest Reporting is so necessary. There is so much misinformation in the media because they dont FACT CHECK!
Case in point- the actual count of terrorists vs civilian deaths in the Gaza incursion.
How about all the emails circulating against Israel all over the world ? The Hamas supporters have more organized email groups and lists than Israel supporters. Check the NY Times Letters to the Editor, for example.
How abt the University protests that draw Hamas sympathizers on Israel divestment? The Universities have no business getting involved with Middle East politics. Case in point- NYU's protests were fomented by outsiders with "kafiyas". Nothing to do with actual protest against University policies.

Gentlemen:
This is a wonderful commentary of the false-hood of the British Medical Journal.I am surprised that the BMJ has become political! Nonetheless, the BMJ is not being responsible for publishing an article without checking the facts! Keep up the good work! God bless,
Shalom,
Dan

The 22 arab countries that are against each other, but united against Israel, have been unable to destroy Israel through economic embargos or military means and now they have a new weapon, the United Nations. And sadly they may destroy Israel by using this debating society to swing world opinion. Their motto of multiply and seperate has enabled them to have so many small countries each which gets a representative in the UN. Again by numbers they can effectively sway the votes against Israel. when will the world wake up and see how the UN is strangling Israel?

How could challenging the veracity, or otherwise of the facts of any given event in Israel by Honest Reporting, be stifling the truth? If the BMJ HAD PROOF THAT HONEST REPORTING WAS PRESENTING FALSE INFORMATION , HERE WOULD BE THEIR OPPORTUNITY TO PUBLICISE SUCH A CLAIM , WITH ALL THE VERIFIABLE FACTS!! It would appear that they are unable to do so ,hence the illogical comment that it is Honest Reporting that is at fault. Why not rather commend the painstaking research of those dedicated people ,who are prepared to struggle till the truth is presented in an open way for all to see

It's like the 20's and 30's in Hungary during which no areas of public discourse could be conducted without the (negative) mentioning of the Joos... Why does the BMJ feel the need to publish political articles?

I think Amnesty International should step back and realize that Israel is a tiny country and fighting for her very existence, for them to say that she should be abolished is ridiculous. I have lived there and I see them struggle and try to be peaceful. They insult Israel and should apologize, shame on them, I never give money to them for this very reason. Same with Doctors without Borders and ACLU. Thank you

I long ago gave up on Amnesty Int'l because of their long-standing anti-Israel views. I told them so, but they were not interested. The "halo effect" is a real problem, however.
As for the British _Medical_ Journal, racist fulminating against Israel -- and Jews -- advances the future of _medicine-, how??

Honest Reporting, you have just received a badge of honor (or honour, Brits spelling). The mere fact that you are criticized indicates that you are a thorn in their throat. Keep up your good work.
British anti-Judaism (not Semitism because Arabs ar Semites too) is centuries old. The first European exile of Jews took place in England. Their one sided favoratism towards the Arabs in the 19th centuries is well documented. Sir Lawrence of Arabia was the symbol of England's love to the warm blooded Arabs. But how many are aware of Churchill's effort to block Jewish Immigration to Palestine?

Gentlemen:
Your commentary is very intelligently written and elightening. The BMJ and AI must be held accountable as well as Hamas for contributing to the bias and hatred they are spreading with the false accusations on behalf of Israel. Congratulations to a job well done. Take a lesson BMJ and AI.

By coincidence I picked up a book by Karl Sabbbagh this morning at the library: Palestine a Personal History. Seems Mr. Sabbagh has a personal interest in presenting a particular point of view that he should be advertising, though as to the details of that point of view I have no comment until I have read the book. The Sabbagh family/clan (he is English on his mother's side) seems to have a history in the region including areas of Israel, Jordan and Lebanon.

I used to be a strong supporter of Amnesty International (not in $$ terms), but some years ago they fell out of favor because of their anti-Israel bias (from my perspective). They have not changed. As someone with a science background I am surprised and shocked that a medical journal's editors would countenance drivel one would expect from Hamas.

I am not Jewish but I see a radical spiritual change of England in the last ten years. What is going on in England? Have the English People forgotten what the Holy Scriptures say about those who persecute, curse or do harm to Israel? Why so much hatred against her?
I see such a hatred against Jewish people that it looks insane.

i believe that this british medical journal represents the abysmal medical resaearch done by british scientists and medics compared to the many scientific discoveries, scientific successes done by jewish israeli doctors and researchers in israel. it is a case of pure jealousy of israeli accomplishments in the field of scientific research and medical technology, drug discoveries, medical and biomedical high tech inventions......none done by british researchers. the sad part is that their society benefits from much of the israeli discoveries in both high tech and medicine, drugs and pharmaceuticals.
envy is a disease. let them envy. when they are up to par with israel's discoveries, you will see a drop in their medical journal demonizing israel.
likewise, i believe these british indivisuals choose the "palestinian cause", which they don't even care about, to eliminate any new invention/scientific competition coming out of israel. by eliminating their competition, they hope to advance their abysmal and outdated research. poor sods!

Frankly, I never heard of BMJ. Can't help wonder how a "medical journal" gets itself into the propanda business. I guess it just proves what I've heard about Great Britain; namely, that anti-Semitism is endemic to our friends, the Brits.
As to lobbies and lobbying, no one surpasses the Saudis who dispense fortunes not only to try to delegitimize Israel, but also to spread Islam in its most regressive form (Salafism) from the USA to the Phillipines and everywhere in between. (For a reference, see Alan Dershowitz on YouTube.)

Just because HonestReporting is attacked, only means it's all the more important and true. Goodness and honesty will always be attacked until the time when the world is redeemed and goodness and honesty will prevail, when there will be no more wars, hunger or sadness. May it be NOW!!

Much of what the BMJ is doing is very regrettable. The BMJ, like JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) is a medical journal "of record". As such, its editorial functions need to be of a much higher caliber.
As for Karl Sabbagh's complaints about the vicious language of some of the respondents, he should simply join one of the many Muslim parades in the UK and read the signs calling for the killing of the Jews or the beheading of the traitors or infidels and so on. We have all seen the photos and the videos that preach extreme violence and hatred.
In marked contrast to the other writers, Mark Clarfield's "Personal View" typifies the highest standards of humanity that are shown day in and day out by members of the IDF, the finest citizen army the world has ever known.
