The bias is obvious. Could someone PLEASE explain to me why the BBC is so pro-Palestinian and so anti-Israel? Is this some long-standing British antiSemitism coming to light, or is there some undue Arab influence on the BBC itself?

Aren´t reporters bound by a code to deliver news in a balanced objective way? The way BBC presents news over the conflict between Israel and the palestinian territories is unbalanced, over-explicit pro-palestinian. BBC should be ashamed over such reporting.

How about exposing BBC in every possible public forum by soliciting donations from Jewish people for ads worldwide.
Otherwise, not many will know the truth about BBC and their bias.
It is about time someone gave them a fight!!! the bastards.

The BBC knows full well they have nothing to fear -- they are dealing with just Jews and Israelis. Hammas would know how to react if the tables were turned, and it wouldn't be in writing. But wait, they have anyway. And the BBC still adores them.

Excellent piece and, unfortunately, not too surprising. My question to HR is whether there are plans to submit a paper on these findings (perhaps with an extended analysis) to a peer-reviewed media studies or conflict -related journal, and whether HR teams up with independent academics and scholars to bring these types of findings to the attention of those who do not read HR communiques. I, for one, might be able to offer assistance with the statistical analysis of such data.

Gentlemen:
On page 5 of Sunday's Chicago Tribune's Perspective section, they printed an article headlined "For news media, transparency is a matter of trust".
It rated various worldwide media ourlets on a scale of which the best was 4.0. The top 3 were: The Guardian (?) at 3.8; The New York Times at 3.4; and, believe it or not (I can't), BBC News at 3.2.
Incredible!!!
THanks for your constant monitoring. I wish I could contribute, but I am an old geezer just getting by on social security. And with the cost of meds...

Waging War Cost Money.
The Palestines in Gaza are running out of food. Children are dying in the streets! However, everyday Hamas, from Gaza are sending Kasam Rockets over to Sederot in Israel.
It costs money to wage a war, to build the Kasam rockets. It costs money to send the Kasam rockets. Hamas, use the money to buy food!!

Asking why the BBC (or the British) is anti-Israel is sort of like asking why the British led the Legion in 1948. Money talks and ...etc. Great Britain has a long history of philo-Arabism and this will not change now or maybe never. Why PBS in the USA in pro-Arab is another altogether more important question. Well, money may be the anser here too.

I have taken the liberty of forwarding the above article to our local NPR station,KJZZ, requesting them to look into this matter.
I hope others would do the same.
Perhaps we need to evaluate our participation in this network.

Thank you for that in-depth analysis. I would add one further type of misleading comment, often used in subsidiary clauses in headlines. For example (I cannot remember the quotation verbatim), last week, the World Service reportin on the release of Palestinian prisoners said,
"Coninuing its policy of divide and rule, Israel is releasing 256 ..."etc.
We should also be aware of this very subtle form of persuasion used by the BBC

I don't believe this report.
I might believe it if you published the data so I could make my own mind up.
But we're supposed to take your word for it?
I'm also suspicious of the way the piece is introduced. You mention three instances of BBC failures which are unrelated to your research. I regard this as setting the scene; a deliberate effort to put doubt about the BBC's integrity into the reader's mind before they start.
However... publish the data, and we'll see.

There is no truth in the Palestinian claim that they had a historic presence in the region and that's why they have not been willing to negotiate any settlement, regardless of what the British say in support of false Palestinian positions. The British should give up already and call a spade a spade. Lies begaet lies and it goes on forever. Bob

This is certainly deliberate. It is part of the propaganda that is sweeping globally - All western TV is controlled - See www.prisonplanet.tv for explaination

Liberal media mindset is always anti-
Israel, our nation and admin. is now arming Israel's enemies, arms and funds. Palestinian arabs and their kin wants to anilate Israel, not live side by side[two state solution]
Fatah and Hamas are like terriost twins. President Bush either needs new advisors or needs to wake up to the wording of all arab charters and
to demand the arab nations[22 of them ] to put Israel on their maps and give them a seat in the UN Security Council, and revamp arab schools to quit teaching their children hate.

We need to make the public aware that BBC is so biased! People are being affected by this because they believe what they hear, see, and read, and this bias promotes the Palestinians at the expense of Israel. It's fine to say their side of the conflict, but it is unethical to neglect an entire nation's feeling on a war that is ripping their country apart.

BBC bias in favour of Palestinians apparently did nothing to prevent their Gaza reporter Mr. Johnston from being kidnapped and held in captivity for months by Islamic "militants".
I believe that the BBC is representative of a malaise that continues to see the world in simplistic black and white terms. Those who possess military strength are by definition the aggressors, while those who don't, are by definition the victim. Perhaps they would be in favour of foregoing Britain's military "might" to enable them to fall victim to Islamists en masse who are, after all according to a BBC mindset, merely seeking to balance the wrongs as they (the militants) perceive them to be?

Do not forget that the whole Middle East problem started with the British Mandate. The politic of "divide et impera" was used then...and now.
By the way, British Press (specially BBC) has never been to friendly to the Jews. While the great muslim population is always looked upon with great consideration...As you know, Jews do not put bombs in London...so better be kind to those who put them, just in case.

I would love you to do a similar study both on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and on the major Canadian newspaper, the Globe and Mail. Both show a lot of bias against Israel.
Posted by: Jonathan Usher at Jul 23, 2007 3:18:12 AM
BBC's bias is not "subtle". It's easy to see for anyone who watches its news about the middle east with interest.

In the words of the little Jewish boy visiting Israel in the 50's who on being told of the British military preventing Jewish refugees from landing from tiny ships on mandated Palestine's shores after WWII,
"Dad,how could we British do this to us Jews?"
The BBC is doing a great job of encouraging Aliya to Israel.

The UK has become so biased against Jews, as a whole. This is supported in their reporting. Antisemitic name calling, disrespect to those wearing skull caps, etc. is quite common. Orthodox boys in college have taken to wearing baseball hats to protect themselves against attacks, both verbal and physical. The UK is no friend of Jews and I gather reports of such have been made by various groups...so far to no avail.

The Toronto Star is no slouch at this game. In a recent edition, the cut line under a picture showing a dead body lying at a Gaza/Israeli crossing said words to the effect of, "For Palestinians, crossing at Israeli check points can be deadly..." So far it isn't looking good for the Israelis, is it? Then the next sentence continues the story: "...This man was killed by Israeli soldiers when he attempte to throw grenades at them."
I don't know whether to be furious at the deception or laugh hysterically at the comedy.

The BBC consists of tens of thousands of employees, some of them journalists, many of them Jewish. But whoever is responsible for managing the reponses to the website, and who therefore allowed the antisemitic diatribe to remain visible for as long as it did, should be named and shamed. Why don't the Jewish journalists, including presenters, actually do something about this, even surreptitiously, so as not to endanger their jobs.It should also be noted that the BBC bias has affected all other news channels in the UK. Jon Snow, who has a lot of influence on Channel 4, is another Jew-hater and the tone of Channel 4 news is even more hateful than the BBC. When reporting on the meeting of the four Middle East negotiators the newsreader said "They are discussing the sufferings of the Palestinian people who suffered both from the Occupation and from the Hamas fighting". Who said they suffered under the 'occupation'? At the height of the prosperity, Palestinians enjoyed the greatest measure of freedom and prosperity they had ever experienced, which is exactly why Arafat and his cronies were determined to launch the first Intifada and the Palestinians will never be as prosperous again.

BBC is nowadays a branch of Muslim propaganda. As we all know there are daily attacks on Jews in GB: Their broadcasting is like Nazi broadcasting during the WWII. I refuse to pay for BBC channel and I hope many eople and countries will do the same. It is the only way to protest. Boycott their broadcasting
