Don't Boycott the BBC
In today's Jerusalem Post, Stephen Pollard argues that boycotting the BBC would be counter-productive:
But the idea that the BBC's bias would change if it was denied access to press conferences and Israeli officials is risible. The BBC's bias is the result of a pervasive contemporary left-liberal mindset, which holds that Israel is at best a bully and at worst illegitimate as a nation....
Boycotts do not work against organizations such as the BBC, whose existence and funding are guaranteed by British law and which are driven by a conviction in their inherent superiority.

I disagree with Pollard. The objective of a boycott is not to directly change the BBC but to stimulate public debate about how the BBC operates.
The BBC will only change when the public realizes how the truth is abused. Boycotting may give Israel a chance to voice its grievances. Not boycotting will do nothing.

Stephen correctly points out that the BBC is dripping with hate and lies against Israel.
But then Stephen suggests doing nothing about it.
In fact a boycott is not enough, and the BBC's press credentials should be withdrawn by the Israeli press authorities.
The resaon is simply that BBC World TV is not acting as a press organization, but instead a propaganda organization, with the same goals as Hizbollah's Al-Manar TV.

A boycott of the BBC would just allow it to become more one-sided in its reporting. It's about time our community showed its feelings on the street. A large, peaceful demonstration outside the BBC's Bush House would highlight the issue and I assume the other media networks would revel in the chance to report on it and see the BBC embarrassed.

Boycotting the BBC is not the solution. Excellent public relations is the solution to changing the nature of the reporting.
We should learn from the Palestinians that if you play the victim role you will gain the sympathy and ear of news programmes.
We need many more Benjamin Netanyahus to get our side across with sensible and logical arguments. And to make journalists understand that we are the victims.

Withour credentials BBC reporters can be chucked out of Israel. It may be the better of many bad ideas. I see BBC America in L.A and never saw much fairness in their reporting compared to ITN which is a lesser evil, inspite of their apapleptic and heavy breathing reporters who quiver and stammer during their reports. There is no gain for the State of Israel to open its doors to those who are not prepared to abide by ehtical journalistic practices and stay with the truth. I would suggest to the dummies at GPO to make every credentialed person to sign a contract under which they promise to report fairly and avoid rumors, unsubstantiated stories, staging events and helping hostile elements. Those breaking the contract can be deported or sued. During last year a known A.P photographer who was followed and seen doing things which I am not prepared to mention was asked to leave by his bureau in israel. This Frenchman, will never return to Israel, after doing considerable damage over the years. He is in lebanon now. But, it is known that either IDF or GPO called his office to warn them that he was about to be detained and gave him the opportunity to slip without opening an official file as they say in IL. It makes no sense to allow these awful people to advance their careers, make money and help hostile causes because Israel is a nice place to work.

I disagree with Pollard. The BBC and many of their reporters (read propogandists) have always been intellectually dishonest. They constantly offer editorial comment as reporting. They have a right to their opinions; however, Israel does not have too make it easy for them to spew their viscious propoganda by giving them unlimited access. A boycott wouldn't stop them, but banning them from Israel would send a message. Of course they will scream "freedom of the press", but if they are not there, they will have to use other media's stories to spew their propoganda. At least then everyone will know it is propoganda rather than on site reporting.

I agree with Jeffrey Leader.
All of us must start to get better organized and put pressure on the BBC through demonstrations.
Count on my support.

The BBC seems intent on deliberate censorship on their Have Your Say section at the BBC website. They must think that they know better than anyone else what to honestly report and what to emit from the public eye. As a government sponsored entity, tutored by the Psychological arm of the Tavistock Institute, they are calculating and manipulating public perception. I look at the BBC at part news and part National Enquirer.

Are there not enough dissatisfied people willing to make a stand against the BBC. . . who are willing to withhold licence payments to bring it to its knees?
Could not such a revolt be organized?
IF the numbers were large enough, prosecuting offenders would bring the courts to a standstill. And there isn't enough room in the prisons to lock up all those who stand against paying the parasites at the BBC.
It's alright letting off steam on blogs such as this, but what is the point if we are not willing to make a sacrifice and fight this issue all the way to the end.

I believe israel should boycott BBC , Skynews and others.
Kick the guys out. Today israel is isolated in the world thanks to the biased media. Such policy would not change the behaviour of the western media but at least israel would stop collaborating with those who are contributing to the israel isolation in the world. I watched skynews during the lebanese war and not once did sky did a report about hezzbollah history. Not once did sky report hezzbollah was responsible for a buenos aires attack in with dozens of civilians were killed. Israel wont be able to change western media but at least israel will make that it will not colaborate with people who whitewash the suicide bombers.

I watched as the BBC News announced '15 people killed in Israel', when 12 were soldiers about to enter Leb. Now, of course, while all soldiers are people, I can't imagine 12 Hezbollah fighters being called 'people' in a report of their death. It would be 12 Hezbollah militants or fighters. So yes, there's clear bias, but often in the other direction in favour of Israel. By all means boycott the BBC (or anyone else who attempts to present a balance) - if you think life with Fox news will make you better informed....
