AP's 'martyrs'

It looks like AP has adopted the word "martyr" to describe suicide bombers.

Mother

Um Nidal, mother of three Palestinian martyrs delivering a speech at a celebration at the 18th foundation anniversary of Palestinian militant group, Hamas, on Friday Dec. 30, 2005, in the Syrian capital, Damascus. Hamas organized a celebration at Yarmouk refugee camp southern Damascus with participation of 2000 Palestinians. (AP Photo / Bassem Tellawi)

Some things never change...

The left continues to try and dumb down everything. A young manipulated boy who blows himself up and kills women and children in the process is hardly a martyr. For the reward of a bunch of virgins? It is the sick side of Islam.

Its also important to note that the "matyr" wasn't fighting Israel, but fighting with Al Qaeda against the United States in Iraq. From another AP quote (did a search for the mothers name on Yahoo News Photos).

Um Muhamed, mother of Palestinian Nidal Hussein Mustafa, who recently died while fighting in Iraq alongside al Qaeda, holds his picture at her home in Ain el-Hilweh refugee camp in the southern port city of Sidon, November 21, 2005. On a quiet autumn night, a mosque loudspeaker shatters the silence in this poor Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon. Picture taken November 21, 2005. To match feature Bc-Lebanon-Iraq-fighters. Thats just funny.

It's just the photo caption. Photo captions are usually written by the photographer responsible for the photo, who in this case was Bassem Tellawi. Tellawi is presumably spaking Arabic and translating in the field.

Furthermore, no matter how we feel about the character and integrity of the suicide bombers, most Palestinians will consider their lives as having been taken in a heroic act thereby making them martyrs.

sigh

Not surprised, just sad...

I was eating my lunch when I saw this and nearly lost it. I have had issues with AP before this, but with this they have gone from liberal to enemy.

I await Maureen Dowd's proclamation of "absolute moral authority" for THIS one.

Is it a surprise that the AP would call a homicide bomber "a martyr"? After all, the New York Times only two weeks ago refused to call the murderers of US Navy Diver Robert Stethem "terrorists". Instead, the Times called them "militants". The Times referred to Hamas and Islamic Jihad last month as "Palestinian fighters". SO it should be no surprise that the AP takes the Times lead in using Arab terminology to enter its news pages.

Why doesn't anyone point out to the so-called "Palestinians," who are supposedly so well loved by their Arab brothers, that they are still living in squalid ghettos while their "friends" are swimming in petro-dollars.

And now the demos want a terrorist bill of rights at the expense of american citizens safety. after all in the nineties that many americans didn't die and the terrorist had all rights. now that evil bush is worried more about americans safety then what terrorist think of, no wonder no one likes us.we could go back to the act of trying to buy friends as was done in the ninties with north korea even that can't be proven that they are dangerous to america. after all this the dems think I should want thier protection for my family, I don't trust my families safety to the dems because they ARE a bunch of girlie men( women)who are scared to stand up for america.
