Spielberg takes on the Mossad

OlympicsReuters reports that Steven Spielberg is making a film about the Mossad’s revenge hits on Palestinian terror leaders connected to the the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics. The film, “Vengeance” is based on an apparently discredited book of the same name by George Jonas. A December release is scheduled.

I read "Vengeance" as a teenager and thought it was terrific. I am dismayed to now find out it was discredited. Can someone give me more info on the book and its supposed falsehoods?
Also, didn't HBO once produce a movie about this. It seemed to be based on the book too.

HR is terrific. Please keep up the good work.

There WAS an HBO movie made based on the book: Sword of Gideon, Starring Steven Bauer.

Reuter: "Best known in Israel for "Schindler's List", a Holocaust epic that ends with a pro-Zionist message"

what a releif

"In the preface to "Vengeance", author George Jonas declares himself a supporter of Israel. But according to at least one member of Spielberg's cast, Daniel Craig, the screenplay is a less-than-flattering portrayal of Israeli tactics.

"It's about how vengeance doesn't ... work -- blood breeds blood," Craig told entertainment magazine Empire."

An even bigger relief. Gotta love Hollywood Jews...even though they are better off sticking to ET and Jurrassic park.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Steven Spielberg, famed for Hollywood blockbusters, is keeping mum about his latest project, a dramatisation of tit-for-tat killings that followed the 1972 massacre of Israeli Olympic athletes by Palestinian guerrillas.

Tit-for-tat killings? What the heck is wrong with these people? Murdering 11 Arab athletes would be tit-for-tat. The Mossad tried to get the guys responsible for the massacre. Some would call that justice. Some would call it revenge. But tit-for-tat? No.

Well, you couldn't really say that murdering an entirely innocent man in Norway did a lot for Israel's reputation, regardless of the fact that the Munich terrorists had it coming.

Adrian, true, it didn't help Israel's reputation. However that was a case of mistaken identity, and it is not comparable in any way to the murder of the Israeli athletes. Mistakes do happen unfortunately, and the perpetrators of this act were punished by the Norwegians and the Israelis. The Palestinian murderers were not punished by their own people or the Germans on whose soil the murder was committed. So Israel took it upon itself to correct this. The world is a better place for it.

There was no "mistaken identity" in the case of Israeli olympiads. . .was there?

What a joke this will become, tit for tat, beyong belief!!!

For murder to be committed not only must there be an act but also intention which there patently was not in this case.

And as for Israel's reputation, whatever she does the world will hate her. Israel's greatest sin is that she defends Jews and that the world cannot stomach.

If Israel waited for justice from the rest of humanity she would be waiting forever. Thus, for sixty years much of the world has actively protected the vast majority of those individuals who pepetrated the Holocaust.

The real shame of all of this was not the accidental killing of one man (how many hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians did the UK accidentally kill during World War II or recently in Iraq?) by a nation pursuing justice, but by the global commmunity which continued with the Munich Olympics as if this act of mass-murder against these Jewish athletes had never taken place. How little the world really changes.

The Arab terrorists murdered 11 Israeli athletes but the Arabs were never condemned as are the Israelis for their counter measures against terrorists, the main issue became very quickly the vengeance not the crime. One reasonable explenation for that is that the 'enlightened' nations miss the Jew as a victim who dies peacefully, not a Jew who boldly fights back, Israel is a stick in their eye, an obstacle. This is the motive behind the sweeping support to the Palestinians, no other conflict draws the same attention as the Israeli Arab, their heart doesn't burn for the victims in Somalia, the Arabs can go to hell, as long their opponent is not Israel. Dead Jews are not news, dead by the Jews are big news. Anti-Semitism is so deeply soaked in the Western culture that this seems to be obvious. Most of Spilbergs customers are not Jews so he must 'play by the rools'.

Jabotinsky – I wasn’t saying that Israel doesn’t have the right to seek justice for its murdered citizens, because I agree with you that if they don’t, no-one else will. The point I was making is that it would be hard for a film about the hunt for the Munich killers to show the operation in an entirely positive light, given what happened in Norway. My comment was related to the film alone.

Maybe you are right Adrian. Maybe "it would be hard for a film about the hunt for the Munich killers to show the operation in an entirely positive light," so why make it?

What is the point in making a film which can only show Israel in a bad light? Why highlight that? Why is it so important?

It's the same point as we can make about the whole Arab-Israeli conflict. It might be very important to people with some personal contact with the situation, but why is it so important to the world's press? <> antisemitism <>

Sheesh, can't Spielberg make a nice exciting film instead?

Spielberg's film may be about the reaction to 1972, but it is really a comment of the current events in which Mossad's secret society has voided all morality in their attacks.
