Reuters' Relativity

Speaking in Khan Yunis, Mahmoud Abbas called Israel “the Zionist enemy.” Recognizing that such talk can’t be described as “moderate," Reuters calls the Palestinian presidential candidate a “relative moderate.”
Can terms like “relative terrorist” be far behind?

Personally, I'm thankful they described him as they did. That's already something!!! After all, I don't really recall Arafat being described as an "extremist" or even a "hardliner":)

to be fair, what was he supposed to say during an election campaign after israel killed 7 (or was it 11) palestinian youths, after a retaliation strike caused by Palestinian rocket attacks. None of the terrorists were killed in the israeli strikes, just palestinian youths.

I dont think its that bad that he said this.

Right, so ISRAEL is to blame for those deaths. . .thanks Steve for keep this going. Nevermind the rocket attacks. . .just focus on the "crime" of response. . .nice

Steve:

The Jerusalem Post version of what happened differs from the Palestinian version as espoused by the "Western" news service Reuters.

You have to decide which side is most likely to lie. (Harumph.)

Easy YIS. I respectfully ask you not to put words in my mouth. The perpetrators of the rocket attacks need to be punished. People who hang around them, knowing what they are up to, also deserve to be punished. People who enable them, also, need to be punished.

I did not call Israel's response a crime. I fully support all responses approved by the IDF chief of staff. I would prefer us to be more careful at times. Thats all.

Case in point - the recent harrasment of Mustafa Barghouti at checkpoints. Caught on camera. Is it necessary to harass Abu Mazens main opponent at checkpoints on camera?

There probably are reasons behind it - who knows - i'm sure barghouti gave the soldiers no choice (they probably didn't know who he even is) as its a useful piece of electioneering for him. But we gave him exactly what he wanted. From the footage I saw, we could have rather held him still rather than striking him.

About the Zionist enemy thing...given that he is running a 'supposed' election campaign (an election which is a sham) Abu Mazen's comments are entirely understandable from his point of view. I just wish that it would be reported more, so that the world understands that he is not a peace loving moderate and that we are indeed enemies.

He absolutely had to respond to the deaths of these 7 youths - he has to pander to his public. He is worried about the perception that the terrorists have about him, and he will continue to pander to them.

His comments dont worry me. We are Zionists. And we are his enemies.

Greenmamba, I just read the JPost link. Thanks. I take back my initial comment.

Im still glad he made the comments. The more the merrier in fact, because the lefties are convinced that Abu Mazen is the man we can all trust.
