Swedish humor

This cartoon was published in yesterday's edition of Sweden's largest morning daily, Dagens Nyheter. Penned by the paper's staff cartoonist, Hans Lindström, it appeared on the "Family" page, a section of light columns and "humor":

The man with the dog: "I don't think that one should build walls between people."

The Jew: "Damn anti-Semite !!"

Comments to Dagens Nyheter's ombudsman: ombudsman@dn.se

(Hat tip: Bob S.)

UPDATE: The Spitball Effect photoshops in a way to get the cartoonist off the hook. That would have been much more, er, thought-provoking.

Anti-Israel bias is pretty normal here in Sweden (as in many countries)

Our news service TT (Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå) frequently distorts translations from Reuters and others. They even have holocaust sceptics like Stefan Hjertén in their staff...

Check out this great swedish blog on TTs bias:

This is the most shocking blaring racism I've seen in a Western paper. I can't believe my eyes!

It would have been vagually racist had it been just an Israeli saying that (meaning, it would have smelled bad but been impossible to criticise). As it stands, with a Jew drawn in a filthy way which would have made the Nazis proud, the anti-semitism is overt. Explicit. Hideous.

There is an update to this story. This was only a work in progress. I have found the final version, and it makes alot more sense now.

Sorry about the double post.

If you prefer to call and talk to the newspaper ombudsman, the number is +46-8-738 11 11, between 9:30 and 11:30 Central European Time.

You can't be serious that the picture above on this site was not the final one? The picture has probably been scanned from an ordinary DN news paper, you can see that because you can read the article on the other side of the paper.

Clearly the bomb-belts have been added afterwards in some way (probably using photoshop or something like that)!

How about this cartoon in South Africa?

Sorry...here the cartoon in SA is

Okay even the "final version" is offensive. That's not funny, it's not even thought provoking. It's gross and inappropriate. Don't even get me started on the South African cartoon.

Ahhh....good old Palestine. The only example of Ethnic cleansing were the population actually surges quicker than any Western population in the world.

Invasion of Palestine? (Or Palistine).

I guess that school could have helped you. But didn't.
