Remove 'Jew Watch'
When one performs a search for the word 'Jew' in Google, the world's most popular search engine, a horribly anti-Semitic hate site called "JewWatch" is the number one listing.
A concerned individual has started a petition drive to demand Google remove this hate site: Remove Jew Watch
Jerusalem Post has an article that provides good background on this problem:
What is a Jew? Those hoping to find out from a Google search are in for an unpleasant surprise. The first of 1.75 million entries that appear when you type "Jew" into the search engine is an anti-Semitic site.
This discovery by a New York real-estate developer, among others, has sparked a cyberspace showdown, and a bid to alter the situation by a small band of Internet experts.
IMPORTANT NOTE: HonestReporting recently challenged GoogleNews' inclusion of JihadUnspun in the increasingly popular GoogleNews site.
Though both issues involve anti-Semitism and Google, there's a key difference: JewWatch's prominence is due to a default output of the Google algorithm's reading of all web pages. JihadUnspun, on the other hand, has been actively selected by GoogleNews for inclusion as a legitimate news site. There is a significant editoral decision involved with GoogleNews that is far less on the main Google search. We therefore view GoogleNews' inclusion of JihadUnspun as a more egregious violation.
Meanwhile, JihadUnspun remains on GoogleNews.
UPDATE 4/13: New York Times has an article on this matter, and the general issue of hate groups indexed on search engines.
UPDATE 4/26: The Jewwatch battle is won...according to CNET.

We need to replace Jew Watch pronto. I'm going to send one of my MENSA level e-mail bombs to google and have them remove this stain immediately. They WILL respond to me. I'm taking care of this personally.

I went to the removejewwatch.com site & was surprised to see that it wasn't a petition but a guestbook that was interspersed with anti-semitic messages. I wanted to sign it but didn't want to be included with those anti-semites. It seems that it ought to have been set up as strictly a petition then those anti-semites would not have been participating & making a mockery of something so serious.

The accusation is terrible, and any website supporting racism, segregation, suppression, etc. should be taken from the internet anyway.
However: when I look for "jew" in the international Google directory, there is no link to a website called "jew watch" on the first dozends of results. Is the whole story just a hoax?

When I went to RemoveJewWatch.com and clicked on the link to sign the petition, it was initially legitimate and I signed it. However, after I forwarded this to all my friends and family, my friend informed me that after clicking on the link to sign the petition she saw offensive male pictures. I checked it out and it did the same thing. Did someone go and sabotoage the website?

Ranking in Google's search engine is handled by a algorithm that takes into account the number of times a word is used on a page and the number of pages that link to the page using that word. This is why the first result for the search term 'miserable failure' is the biography of George Bush: someone arranged for many websites to make a link that says 'miserable failure' and link it to the president's biography.
The best way to pull Jew Watch out of the top spot, then, is to push another site above it by creating links to that site. I'm not normally one to toot my own horn, but my web page 'Who is a Jew?' in Judaism 101 (http://www.jewfaq.org/whoisjew.htm) is the only legitimately Jewish website in the top 10 for the term 'Jew'. If you have a website, put a link on your page that says 'Who is a Jew?' and links to my page. That should knock JewWatch down without any need for cooperation from Google.

Full Hate, Empty "info", Exposed! In Short 'Jewwatch' is an obbessive attempt [by Neo Nazis (Yes, no matter how much Nazis hate all 'non whites,' they manage to "cooperate" in this 'unholy' alliance) and Islamo Radical Fascist combined] to put any dirt on anything Jew or Jewish, from the most silly "conspiracy" theories to any case throughout history throughout the entire world that may or may not involve a person with any relations to Jews. Nothing about a supposedly "orgenized Jews' culpbiaity" can ever be made [as oppose to serious research: www.jihadwatch.org, http://www.dhimmi.org, www.geocities.com/arabracismplusjihad & other targeting militant organized crimes] of, on anything of course, even if those isolated incidents involve a Catholic, a Protestant, a Muslim, a Buddhist, an Arab, a Hindu, Italians, Irish, Germans, etc., or what have you.The very fact that they have accumulated this garbage just on 'Jews',Reafirms the fact of Jewish Innocent Victims

revive your sense of decency and remove the damned web site.

I took a look at the Jew Watch website, currently as #2 in Google. I really doesn't think the site deserves all this critisism. The site does have some right wing links, ok, but so what?

Dear Google Directors
I am 74 years old and lived through the Nazi hatred of the 1930's and World War 2. I am shocked that this type of hatred towards Jews is still being propogated in this modern day and age. Make no mistake - the destruction of the Jewish People will not bring peace to the world, but rather it's destruction.
What is most disappointing is that a great website like "Google" has allowed itself to be used in this manner.
You are a great nation, please do not allow these people to use you like this. Put an immediate stop to this hatred.

Although I disagree with jewwatch.com's agenda, I will defend to the death their right to post it on the internet. I have not followed all of the links from that site, but I have not seen any calls to violence or any other illegal speech. I assume jewwatch is hosted in America, as such its administrators have the right to post any inane, kooky, spiteful, ignorant, etc etc opinions that they want. Freedom of expression is a two-way street.
The best way to counter such a site is not to clamor for its removal, but rather to start your own website, or educate your local community. Preach tolerance and open-mindedness. You can't make up anybody's mind for them, and suppression of ideas only leads to suspicion and paranoia.

the jews who small in number but have contributed more to every aspect of civilisation over the millenia than other people are regrettably the target of uncontrolled jealousy whilst islam which is destabilising the world on its path to world domination is excused by the liberals or better anti western alliance of discontents
any website promoting religious or racial attacks should be immediately discontinued

While indeed, Free Speech is at the heart of the American soul, it has been determined that there are limits, i.e., one cannot yell Fire! in a public place when there is no fire. If Jewwatch is, as it wants to be, incendiary, then I believe iat merits removal from Google.

If every Jew with an internet connection were to visit the site, I doubt they could keep up with the bandwidth!

For those who think jewwatch is merely freedom of speech, please look up the German Rev. Martin Niemoller who in 1945 wrote....."they came for the Communists, but I wasn't a communist so I didn't speak up" ...etc, ... then they came for me and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me." This particularly applies to Google, but also to all those who ignore this type of hatred because they think it doesn't apply to them.

why would any one be shame about the truth, the site posted facts that happened in the past whether I'm Jew or not. why do we consider it a hateful site, when it
teach us about the Jewish doing. of course you are not going to like it and except the fact that is a hatred site when it miss represent the Jewish people as you would believe. For example if you are proud that the Jewish people was made to be different separate unlike any others (christians..muslims..hindus...etc) I'm proud that this site educate me the policies and the programs of the authentic Jewish idea, not educate me to hate the Jews. Just for the sake of knowledge.

I gotta tell ya, when I read of the pain that our elders (like Mr. Louis N Abrams who posted above) are unnecessarily reminded of when bigotry and anti-semitism rears its ugly head, I am both saddened and angered. Tracy Rich is absolutely right about the Google ranking process: "The best way to pull Jew Watch out of the top spot, then, is to push another site above it by creating links to that site." and hers is a wonderful site too! Last night I went sniffing around; discovered the jewwatch.ORG domain was available. So I registered it and put up a website with a decidedly positive message--along with links to Tracy's site and a few others. This won't heal everything hateful out there, it's only a small step toward repair--but all of us together can create real change. Small minded bigots can't win--not while we're around :-)
Peace,
