To be fair, the Brazilians did contribute quite a bit of what they could to the Allied war effort during the Second World War. They supplied a division to fight in Italy, contributed to anti-u-boat operations in the central and south Atlantic, as well as providing basing rights, oil, and rubber.

I consider this cartoon offensive as a Christian. I find it offensive to the memory of Jesus because he was a Jew and is being compared to a terrorist who murdered hundreds of Jews. And the "cartoonist" is wrong about the Jews killing Jesus. By the way Osmani doesn't sound like a Brazilian name. He's more likely an Arab/Muslim transplant. Unfortunately their all over the place.

First - Osmani??? That's the cartoonist's name? How Portuguese is 'Osmani'?? What part of the Middle East does an 'Osmani' come from? Correct me if I am wrong.
Second - What's wrong with the Brasilians? I have several young friends from Brasil. They've simply given up on the country and moved to the US. By every measure, Brasil should be as wealthy as the US - but it's suffered from endless misrule and the endemic harebrained notion that the many are poor simply because the few are rich. If you have nothing and screw up, like Haiti, that's one thing. But to have the natural and human resources of a Brasil and still not manage to create a livable society for the bulk of the populace because of inept, misguided institutions -- that must end up warping the mind, as we see now.
For a really moving book about the wonderful weirdness of Brasil and an episode in its history unknown to virtually all of us gringos, read Vargas Llosa's "La Guerra del Fin del Mundo".

Yassin represents the exact opposite of what Jesus was, Jesus preached to love, even the enemies, Jesus' spirit is just the opposite of any kind of violence, he was a healer and loved all, Jews and Gentiles and of course he was a Jew himself. Yassin on the other hand was a mass killer his victims were innocent people and all were Jews so Jesus, Mary and the holy family fit to be his victims as well. So the Israelis can only be praised for their morality and guts. With this perspective the cartoon hardly shows any sensitivity to the Christians and reflects profound moral blindness of the artist.

The Islamist Osmani -- I don't know too many Christians in that part of the world whose name is Osman or Osamni. -- has got himself a three-fer. He denigrates the Godhead, the Cross, and Jews.

When the Islamic terrorists in the Muslim Triangle (nexus of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay) start bombing out there -- eventually they will cuz the Brazilian and other governments are scared/at a loss to know what to do with the influx of terrorists -- Brazilians will get rid of this Islamic nut who did the cartoon. If Brazilians cheered at this, the terrorists will eventually give them more to cheer about.

I really disagree with the Gordon's comment ( March 24 ) when he demeans Brazil. Brazil is a peaceful place and we have welcomed Jews and all kind of people without prejudice. That cartoon reflects a private opinion and it is not a whole nation opinion. I pray for the peace in Israel !!

I live in Brazil and this guy Osmani Simanca is not Brazilian. He was born in Cuba. He is disgusting, but there is another cartoonist, Chico Caruso, who has made much more outrageous charges. Sometime ago he published a charge with Arafat crucified over the Israeli flag. After September 11, he draw Bin Laden wearing a Mickey Mouse hat and recently after March 11, Bin Laden was dressed like a bull fighter after having defeated a bull with the world map on his skin. In both charges Bin Laden looks like a winner. He is much more important than Simanca. He is the official cartoonist of "O Globo", which is the most significant media network in Brazil (newspaper, TV, cable TV and Internet).
About the Brazilian participation of Brazil in World War II, the soldiers were heroic and did their best. However, the Brazilian government only decided to declare war to Nazi Germans after they had sunk several ships off the coast of Brazil. The Brazilian dictator then, Getulio Vargas, was a right-wing extremist and a sympathizer of the fascists and Nazis.
Nowadays, our President Lula has declared in many occasions his sympathy for the Palestinians and he is kind of a friend of Arafat. Recently he visited five Arab countries (including Lybia). It's terrible to live in a country like this.
Last, about Suzana's comment: unfortunately Brazil has not welcomed Jews and all kind of people as kindly as you said. My own family had to pay a lot of money for that, same as other Jews who came to Brazil to escape the Nazis. Recently a special TV series named "Aquarela do Brasil" showed the real story of Jewish Immigration to Brazil. The most dramatic story was that of Olga Benario, the Jewish wife of a communist, who was sent to Europe by Getulio Vargas and killed by the Nazis in a concentration camp.

a simple opinion do not reflect a nation. don't mess with the memories of those braves brazilians, who fougth in ww2, my uncle fell in italy, and he did with his life,what most of us will never do in life... In 1940's Brazil declare war at the same time as the US, in 1941, but it just sends troops after the sinking of Brazilian ships (the same ships were sending raw material to the allies). because the US have the largest base outiside US where?, guess..remenber the trampolin to victory?? Vargas was not a facist or nazy..before the war he send a letter to the US with the info about nazys party and the worry of Brazil was at the time a weak point to invade, and the US could not fight 3 fronts..do you think this a nazy man? he was a dictator of Brazil, sure . but he broke the german, italians and japonese community, order them to only teach portuquese in those schools communitys and raise the citzenship. And by the time Brazil was a the war, "the smoke Cobras" where the was descendents of blacks, germans, japoneses all Brazilians volunters fighting the germans.. the israel state was a Brazilian who help at the time, wasn't?
