Border Fence

An HonestReporting reader submits:

The border security fence is comprised of many sections totaling scores of miles. Some sections are concrete, others sheet metal.

The barrier is three layers deep in parts, fifteen feet high and surrounded by razor wire. The area around it is lit by spotlights, monitored by cameras, motion detectors and magnetic sensors, and patrolled by armed guards with attack dogs.

But enough about the USA border with Mexico, let's talk about Israel....

And remember, the US/Mexico security fence has been meant only to keep out "financial" immigrants, not suicide bombers and other terrorist murderers. One wonders about the lack of hue and cry from international "human rights" organizations, the UN, and the EU regarding the fence between two countries at peace with each other.

It's simple enough - it's because Israel put up the fence and anything that Israel does is wrong. Al Qeria - their new 'prime minister' is now saying that it would be okay if the fence ran along the seam line (my words). I wish these people would make up their minds.

In the interest of honesty and objectivity you should cite what percentage of the border is guarded by a fence. My guess is that it is less than 10%. Am I wrong?

It's ironic to me that we keep re-labeling the immigration problem instead of just putting up the border fence (with no gaps but legal points of entry only) to keep out what it is intended to keep out "illegal immigrants"; which your article seems to want to slap the new label of "financial immigrants".

I'm for legal immigration and the asimulation of the new immigrants into the American society. The new label "financial immigrant" is just as troubling as any other label you want to slap on it.

Without control of our borders to stop the endless flow of illegal immigrants, controlling human and drug trafficking as well as preventing terrorist from crossing our borders, it will continue to put a financial burden on all legal citizens of every nationality.

It might be a little late to prevent terrorists from entering, as they are probably here already.

And I understand the plight of immigrants to America are for the most part to secure for them and their family a better way of life; which I am proud to be part of!

But the fact remains: if we could achieve this one important issue, it would go a long ways in solving the already overburdened Medicaid/health system, education system, aid in the enforcement of laws already on the books (dealing with companies that hire illegal immigrants) the laws that are not being enforced are driving down wages while benefits are disappearing, and a host of other problems.

I know this is going to be a hardship on many, and probably more of a hardship on the ones that have to leave and come back legally.

But if we don't start here and now, we are not only sending a clear message of in-activity, but might as well put out the welcome mate! And what does that say about our society, a nation built on immigrants, legal immigrants, that went through the system and asimulated themselves into the American society. Did they do the right thing for nothing? Do we want a society built on a foundation of people who have no respect for the law.

Although, in my situation, the status quo, if it remains the way it is, will not have a direct effect on me personally.

But I'm thinking of my grandchildren and their grandchildren and all the legal immigrants grandchildren, what happens to them? Can you tell me that?

James
